Our Story

Visitors who walk through our doors, comment on the genuine warmth, the welcoming hospitality and the kindness of the people who call KawanaLife home.

It all began in 1996.

KawanaLife was founded by Peter Thompson. Our beginnings were very humble; with 20 of us meeting in a small maths classroom in Kawana State College. Eventually we outgrew the room and moved into the school’s gym hall.

Around 1999…

When another local church had outgrown their premises and were moving to a new location, we took over their old building.

Affectionately dubbed ‘The Greenhouse’, KawanaLife has been here for 23 years; initially under the pastorship of John Tanner (to 2000), then Brian Wilisdorf (to 2003), and Dony Johnson (to 2023).

After several months without a pastor; in 2024 we were delighted to welcome Justin Webb into the role as our pastor.

A few months ago…

Despite being quite comfortable with life at ‘The Greenhouse’; in early 2025, God began to show us we should start searching for larger premises. We’re currently in the process of doing just that, and we’re excited to see where He will lead…
